PA Program Spotlight: Case Western Reserve University
Newsletter Article - November 2022
Case Western Reserve University’s Physician Assistant program began its development in 2012. The CWRU School of Medicine Dean at the time, Dr. Pamela Davis, led the development of the program as an opportunity for non-physician providers to help bridge the gap in access to healthcare in the Cleveland Area. Expanding both primary care and healthcare in many specialties. The first cohort of students graduated in May of 2016, led by the founding Program Director Cynthia Booth Lord, MHS, PA-C.
This May, Case Western Reserve University welcomed 37 students into our 2024 cohort. These students received their white coats on May 22nd, 2022, and we are so happy to welcome them to the Spartan family. Our 2023 Cohort started clinical rotations in August and are enjoying their time at various clinical sites around the Cleveland Area. Case Western Reserve is also happy to announce the recent graduation of 32 students from our 2022 Cohort. We are so excited for our graduates as they begin their journeys as PA-Cs.
Case Western Reserve University recently held an inaugural Black Men in White Coats Summit. This recent outreach event was planned alongside University Hospitals to educate and inspire youth within the Cleveland area about potential healthcare career pathways. The Case Western Physician Assistant program took part in this Summit and spread the word about the PA profession to many aspiring medical professionals.
Another volunteer opportunity Case Western Reserve University is fortunate enough to participate in each year is the Student Run Health Clinic. This Clinic is an interprofessional clinic where medical, nursing, dental, physician assistant, and social work students from Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine work together to provide high quality compassionate healthcare to underserved populations within the greater Cleveland area. This clinic gives our Physician Assistant students the opportunity to work with a collaborative healthcare team during both their didactic and clinical year.
Case Western Reserve University is always looking for Alumni involvement in application reviews/interviews, precepting of clinical students, and community service events around the Cleveland area. If any Alumni are interested in helping the Spartan family please reach out to our Administrative Director, Jennifer Capretta, at jxc1434@case.edu.
