Bylaws Amendments Pass, Enhancing the OAPA Student Experience for Ohio's Next Generation of PAs
In July 2025, the OAPA Board of Directors approved two proposals presented by the OAPA Membership Committee to amend the Bylaws to impact student membership duration and membership categories.
After a vote of the OAPA membership, in accordance with the process outlined in Article XVI of the Bylaws, OAPA is proud to announce the passage of these two measures!
Extending OAPA Student Membership Duration: Passed UNANIMOUSLY
This change, through a combination of the amended Bylaws and new Board policy, will extend PA student memberships from the current two years to, instead, the length of their PA program plus six months, ensuring continuous access to resources throughout the student's education and their transition to professional practice. The effort aims to enhance student engagement and increase the likelihood of post-graduation membership retention by providing consistent support and exposure to OAPA’s membership benefits as the student launches into their PA career.
Creation of a Pre-PA Membership Category: Passed 94% approve to 6% disapprove
The establishment of a Pre-PA membership category in OAPA presents a unique opportunity to engage future PAs early in their career trajectory. By fostering relationships with Pre-PA students before they enter PA programs, OAPA can create a pipeline of engaged members who are more likely to remain active participants throughout their education and professional careers.
Each of these measures will take some additional policy and operational work for the OAPA Board of Directors, Membership Committee, and Executive Director, so implementation will take place over the coming weeks and months.
Stay tuned for updates, and thank you to voters for passing these two measures!
