“Early Identification and Diagnosis of Axial Spondyloarthritis"

Presented by Dr. Marina N. Magrey, MD, Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop an awareness of axSpA as treatable cause of back pain
  • Recognize an inflammatory back pain pattern as a typical presentation of axSpA
  • Identify other common clinical features of axSpA that occur outside the spine
  • Gain knowledge of basic principles of diagnosis and treatment of axSpA as applied by rheumatologists
  • Select appropriate testing for a patient with chronic back pain suspected of axSpA and apply criteria for referral to rheumatology

Speaker Biography:

Marina Magrey HeadshotDr. Marina N. Magrey, MD, is a Professor of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University and Division Chief of Rheumatology at University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio. She specializes in axial spondyloarthritis (SpA), psoriatic arthritis, and metabolic bone disease. Dr. Magrey leads clinical and translational research in SpA, with over 40 publications and multiple NIH-funded projects. She serves on the Board of SPARTAN and is active in GRAPPA and the ACR, contributing to national guidelines. A recognized thought leader, she consults on clinical trial design and FDA submissions, and she founded a disease-specific SpA clinic at MetroHealth to improve patient outcomes.
