Join us at the 2024 OAPA Annual Conference for "'Why' Inspires 'Why': The Impact of Precepting."

 Teresa Groh, PA-C, and Jennifer Garrett, PA-C, Mount St. Joseph University will cover this important topic during their session at the upcoming 2024 OAPA Annual Conference. They will help attendees to reflect on their “why” as a physician assistant and recognize how this can be enhanced through precepting, gain an understanding of the mutual positive impact PA students and preceptors acquire through their  collaboration, and identify ways of precepting and mentoring to inspire future generations of PAs.

We recently caught up with Teresa and Jen to ask them more about this important session.

OAPA:
Why are you excited to present to the OAPA audience on this topic?

Teresa & Jen:
We are prior/current Clinical Directors and LOVE working with the clinical year students and seeing their growth during that time. We are very attuned to the continued difficulties of finding enough rotation sites and preceptors for the students and want to educate and discuss the importance of precepting.

OAPA:
What do you think might surprise people about this topic?

Teresa & Jen:
That working with PA students is truly a pleasure...it allows us opportunities to remember our "why", to mentor, to stay up to date, etc.

OAPA:
Why do you love being a PA?

Teresa & Jen:
We love working with PA students because they are so excited about the career and about learning. Having the opportunity to mentor and see the growth in the student's knowledge base is amazing.

OAPA:
Tell us something about your lives outside of work.

Jen:
I have a therapy dog, Mabel, and we visit nursing homes and schools.

Teresa:
I love to travel and one of my travel goals is to visit as many U.S. National Parks as possible! I am currently around 22.
