Primary Care Management of the Chronic Kidney Disease Patient

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the etiology and risk factors for chronic kidney disease.
  • Discuss the screening recommendations for chronic kidney disease.
  • Select and analyze appropriate imaging, laboratory, and diagnostic studies for chronic kidney disease based on the indications, contraindications, and limitations of each study.
  • Discuss preparation for dialysis and transplant including nephrology referral, transplant team referral, and access placement.

Arnold Amity headshotAmity Arnold has been a Physician Assistant since 1996 working in family medicine, nephrology, college health, and urgent care. She is currently on faculty at the Ashland University Physician Assistant Program and serves as the Didactic Coordinator for the program. She holds a BS in sports medicine from the University of Mt. Union, a BS in Physician Assistant Studies from King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, PA, and an MS in Physician Assistant Studies from A.T. Still University of Health Sciences in Mesa, AZ. Away from work, Amity enjoys time with her husband and 3 sons, traveling, and “growing” her 4-year-old flower farm business.
