Clinical Faculty - Department of PA Education

The Department of Physician Assistant Education at the University of Dayton, School of Education and Health Sciences, has an exciting teaching opportunity for a qualified candidate who is interested in shaping the next generation of PAs with a focus on treating the whole person and serving the underserved.

This is a full-time, non-tenure track clinical faculty position with a 12-month contract that is renewable annually, with a projected start date of August 1, 2020. Applicants wishing to explore this opportunity who do not yet possess experience teaching at the university level are encouraged to apply.

Primary Responsibilities

• Teaching and/or moderating modules

• Assessing student performance

• Participating in admissions processes

• Student mentoring and advising

• Related duties, such as: accreditation, curriculum review, and program evaluation

Required Qualifications

• Terminal degree in a health-related field of practice from an accredited institution

o If practicing as a Physician Assistant: Master’s Degree

o If practicing as a Physician: MD or DO

• National and state certification by the appropriate accrediting body

• Two years of clinical experience as a practicing clinician

• Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly in a written format

Preferred Qualifications

While not everyone may possess all Preferred Qualifications, an ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

• Doctoral degree in Education or a Health Sciences field

• Three or more years of experience as a practicing clinician

• Successful experience as a physician assistant educator

• Experience in the Accreditation Review Commission for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) accreditation process, including the development of a self-study

• Experience in the admissions process for physician assistant program applicants

• Working knowledge of modular education for physician assistant students

• Demonstration of excellent time management and organizational skills

• Demonstration of successful experience in mentoring and advising students

• Successful experience working with people from diverse backgrounds

• Effective interpersonal communication skills

• Demonstrated ability to successfully work as a member of a team

• Openness to promoting and enhancing the Catholic and Marianist culture of the department and university

o Upload a sample PowerPoint presentation, preferably one which includes an example of Active Learning.

• Two to three letters of recommendation

o During the application process, you will be asked to submit the email addresses of recommenders, who will be sent instructions for how to upload their letter on your behalf. The due date for the electronic submission of letters of recommendation is 10 days after the application is submitted. Applicants are able to check within the UD system to view whether letters of reference have been received. At least one (1) recommendation letter should address the candidate’s performance as a team member and skills with interpersonal communication.
